 Come and join the fun every Easter in Lightning Ridge, you'll find a program packed with adventure, excitement and plenty of laughs for anyone of any age. You'll be struck by the authentic laid back Australian Outback setting and bush characters.
The Lightning Ridge Easter festival is in it's 34th year and is staged around three main events. The Lightning Ridge Black Opal Rodeo, Australian Goat Racing Championships (yes, you read it correctly) and the Lightning Ridge Horse Races.
The weekend is also packed full of many other minor events like busking competitions, street stall markets, Art exhibitions and a fab fireworks display. There is something for everyone to enjoy and many unexpected local attractions, historical sites and experiences to be discovered at a any pace that suits your fancy. An Outback Easter holiday that will never be forgotten.
LIGHTNING RIDGE EASTER FESTIVAL
Friday
Lightning Ridge Black Opal Rodeo:
Catch all the thrills and spills of the Lightning Ridge Rodeo at the Bill Waterford Equestrian Centre, 3 Mile Road.
Entry is $10 for children,pensioners and concession card holders, $15 per adult or $40 family (2 adults & 2 children).
The slack starts at 9am. The main events begin from 4pm and should finish up at 10.00pm. As usual there will be a delicious canteen, sizzling BBQ, bar (open from 12pm to 12am)and live entertainment.

Saturday
Australian Goat Race Championships
Line up for the heats of the Australian Goat Race Championship, the wild goats are raced down the main street of town and visitors can purchase and race their goats on the day with buggies provided.
The starting gun for the first heat will blast at 9am.Morilla Street, Lightning Ridge.
Wheelie Bin Races occur between the Goat Race heats
Street Entertainment:
There will be street stalls, buskers, all in the street on Easter Saturday morning.

Lightning Ridge Horse Races
First race at approx. 2pm. Entry – adults $10, Pensioners and children over 12 $5, children under 12 free. Kids jumping castle.Prizes for Best Dressed
Lightning Ridge Race Course, Agate Street
Attention Horse Trainers - there is a $4000 opal jewellery bracelet up for grabs as part of the winning prize package for the W.D.A. O’Brien Opal Bracelet Cup (designed by Lost Sea Opals).

Evening Entertainment:
A fun family evening will be held at the Lightning Ridge Motor Village starting at 6pm on Easter Saturday. Please bring a chair if you can. Meals available. Entry fee is a gold coin donation.
A band will keep the joint jumpin’ following the fireworks. A Fantastic fireworks display will be presented on Easter Saturday at approximately 8.30pm
